Violin Course Choices
There have been many studies conducted that have shown that people learn in different ways. Some people thrive on reading and studying books and a self-learning style of education. Others need personal hands-on mentorship, which shows them the practicalities of the skill they are learning. Yet others learn through multimedia such as videos and audios, while yet others are a combination of different learning styles. When deciding on a violin course, both the needs and learning style of the potential student should be considered.
Live Lessons
One of the most popular and traditional ways of learning the violin is through lessons where the Violin Teacher gives practical instruction as well as utilizing the aid of music books. Very often children can sign up for music programs offering tutoring in different instruments through their schools. Sometimes they may make allowances for adults to join these lessons. Music schools also exist on weekends and after school hours, which may be more accessible for adults. For those with high ambitions for their violin playing, private lessons with a well-known orchestral violin player are an option to consider. However, fees for private tutoring will be significantly more than lessons through a school. Despite the cost, the one on one attention a student would gain from private lessons would pay huge dividends in learning a perfected violin technique.
University Programs
Studying a music degree at a University usually involves majoring in a concert instrument, and so a higher degree in violin performance would best be achieved through a University. Entry will be competitive because of the large number of violin players, and normally students have already progressed through other official exams such as the Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) a European and British Standard known worldwide for excellent standards in music. Studying a violin course at a University allows the opportunity to study other courses to enhance musicianship such as composition, orchestration and music theory or even to gain a teaching qualification to become a music or violin teacher.
Online and Self-Learning
With the growth of the internet and sites such as you tube, there is a wide range of information products available at affordable costs and in some cases entirely free. However, one danger of self-learning is learning sloppy technique and having no one to correct it. Once caught, bad habits with technique can often be impossible to change. It is not impossible to learn this way as long as the student takes slow steps and continually practices the elementary steps to lay a good foundation.
Multimedia Courses
Online there are also official learning courses available that make use of DVDs, CDs and music books. This combination of multimedia learning can be very effective. The use of video allows the student to feel a one on one connection with the mentor, which may not be as easy to form in a larger class of students. Other benefits of learning this way are it is usually more cost effective and the student can learn at their own pace. These kinds of courses may also offer discounted prices on subsequent courses. It can also make available to the average musician the opportunity to learn from a top concert soloist where they may never have such an opportunity in a live class setting.
In conclusion, there are countless choices to look at when deciding on a violin course. If you need some extra motivation, joining a class may be the best decision. If you are self-motivated and obsessive with perfecting different skills, you may just thrive by choosing a self-learning course.

Music of the Heart [VHS] $5.29 Why, you might ask, would Wes Craven direct a conventional biopic about Roberta Guaspari, a divorced mother of two who created an acclaimed music program in East Harlem’s troubled school system? After all, Craven built his career on Freddy Krueger and the Scream trilogy, and you won’t find razor-tipped gloves or a single drop of blood in Music of the Heart. All Craven has to do is provide a safe w… |

The Red Violin [VHS] $9.98 Mounted in high lavish style, from the opening strains to coda, The Red Violin pays homage to the careful uses of color and composition without bothering to support these qualities with any real substance. Oh, it’s a class act on the surface all the way, while failing on nearly every other level to convince. The story tells the story, revealing precious little else. The 17th-century Cremonese inst… |
